Smart Card Technology—More inside the Credit Card Shape
Although ID smart cards are the size and shape of a credit card,
the inside contains an embedded microprocessor that contains information—in
much the same way magnetic strips do on credit and ATM cards.
In the European health insurance and banking industries, customers
have ID smart cards that release all of their pertinent information
through smart card readers. When they go to the doctor’s office,
for example, their card passes through one of the smart card readers.
